Saint-Jacques road in the Catalan country

From the Hospice of Ille sur Tet to the Hermitage of Fond-Romeu (7 days / 6 nights, 5 days of walking)

Day 1

You will be greeted at the Ille sur Tet. There will be a visit of the Saint-Jacques Hospice. Check-in at a hotel or guest house where you will be dining and spending the night.

Day 2

Transfer from the road in a village with character. Mounted on the foothills of the Aspres towards the isolated Priory of Serrabone that houses a beautiful pink marble, it is a mecca of Romanesque sculpture. For those trekking amateurs, the mountain Saint-Anne and descent to an old village lost in the valley.

For those heritage lovers, there is a short descent and then by car, you will visit Romanesque and Baroque sites from the old days. Transfer to Prades for dinner and then overnight in a hotel or guest house.

Day 3

There is a short walk to the Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa abbey, classified amongst the 7 wonders of Catalonia. There is a guided tour. There are peaceful villages and Romanesque churches along the route to Vernet les Bains at the foot of Canigou. Dinner will be at a restaurant. The rest of the night will be spent in a hotel or guest house.

Day 4

Morning: the Saint Martin monastery of Canigou and its spectacular surroundings. There is a guided tour. For the walkers, you can descend the valley of Cani until Villefranche de Conflent. For everyone else, you will reach the same destination by car.

Afternoon: Visit of a historic town, its ramparts, the Saint-Jacques church and the Fort Liberia. Dinner and the rest of the night will be at the same destination or you can transfer to Olette.

Day 5

From Olette, there is a long climb on the beautiful roads tot he balcony of Conflent (you can choose to either go North or South). You will arrive at Planès where you will visit the church and unique architecture. After dinner, the rest of the night will be spent at a hostel.

Day 6

The vast pastures of Cerdanya, with its high peaks and the fortress of Mont-Louis are the perfect setting for an itineray without difficulty towards the Hermitage of Fond-Romeu. Dinner and the rest of the night will be spent at the station or you can descend by train to Olette.

Day 7

The departure will be after breakfast.
