This is a 7 night stay with 5 thematic days which invite you to throw yourself in the history of Martinique. Upon arrival in the Martinique airport of Aimé Césaire, you will be greeted by an employee of the car rental company. This employee will provide you with all the necessary directions (itinerary) so you can navigate yourself to your lodge. Our host (native of Martinique) will be there to present you with your breakfast basket containing local products that will guarantee to satisfy your taste buds.

For this "Discovery" trip, you will learn about the history of Martinique, combining gastronomy, nature and beaches:

Saint-Pierre: In one day, discover the history of Saint-Pierre, the city of Art and History, and former capital of Western culture before the eruption of Mount Pelée, May 8, 1902.

You will be able to see the dungeon of Cyparis: Locked up for either a bar fight or a street brawl, all while being intoxicated. His cell was without windows, ventilated only through a narrow grating in the door facing away from the volcano. His prison was the most sheltered building in the city, and it was this fact that saved his life the morning of May 8, 1902. Severely burned, he became the main attraction of the Barnum & Bailey circus, which exhibited him accross the United States of America.

The theatre: Built in 1786, and then rebuilt at the end of the 19th century, reproduced in miniature at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux.

During the carnival there are organized costumed balls. There are still remains of the double monumental staircase, the vestiges of the peristyle (a columned porch of the colonnade), some cabins and a parterre (a formal garden construction on a level surface consisting of planting beds, edged in stone or tightly slipped hedging, and gravel paths) and some parts of walls that are still standing.

The Church of fort: This was the first church on the island, rebuilt at the end of the 19th century; you will find remains of the bases and of the blocks of calcined stone. This monument was entrusted to the regional service of Archaeology.

Le Prêcheur: In one day, discover the city of Le Prêcheur (The Preacher) by its maritime facade. You will have the possibility to learn about the Caribbean history and their tomb (the last indigenous fighters from Martinique, the Caribs, would have the committed suicide by jumping from this cliff to avoid submitting to the yoke of the colonizers).

Yole (boat) ride and contact with the middle of the sea with the fisherman's network.

Sainte-Marie: In one day, discover the history of the Amerindians and Africans on a territory of resistance where the city of Saint-Marie is the cradle of culture in Martinique. You should know that in 1658, the French colonists drove out the Amerindians and installed a fort that was dedicated to the Virgin Marie from.

The Caribs (one of the last original Amerindians in Martinique), have left a legacy, basketry, a true artisanal production located in Morne-des-Esses. Materials and techniques are identical to those of the first inhabitants of Martinique. You will be able to visit this site.

Afterwards, you can also visit the Banana Museum. At the heart of a plantation in full swing, this museum presents the history of this fruit: its origin, its various species, its culture, its properties, its culinary uses. You can discover 62 species planted in a 4 hectare park.

The Museum of Rum was founded in 1981; it traces the history of agricultural rum in Martinique through a photographic exhibition showing various stages from the production of rum, the sugar cane cultivation to the marketing of the product. Located in an ancient colonial house, the museum is adjacent to the Saint-James distillery which is also open for visit. And there might be a rum tasting...
